Capital One - Accnt Suspended for Suspected Fraud within 1 hour of activating Card
I recently (after receiving offers from them every 2 weeks for 3 months) opened a new Capital One Credit Card Account. I received my card a few days ago, phoned the number given to activate and set up my PIN...of course I had to first listen and respectfully decline their offers of insurance, fraud protection etc.
(a 20 minute process). Within the hour I stopped at a Bank's ATM and attempted a $100 cash withdrawal only to receive an "unauthorized transaction" message. I promptly phoned the number given on the back of card and was told that my account had been suspended due to suspected fraud prompted by my transaction attempt. Are you kidding me!
Why had nothing of the sort come up when I activated my account not even an hour earlier...furthermore, they have my phone number (which was verified along with all my other identifying information when I activated the card) Why did they not call me?! Their reply was that they waited for the card holder to phone since someone fraudulently using the card would not bother to call...that is absurd! Then, after many phone calls to finally be able to speak to a supposed manager (they all claim to be the highest one up) I was given a list of items to fax to them to prove my identity...3 days later this issue is still not resolved (they couldn't read the driver's license...but didn't bother to phone to let me know that either...even though I gave all my contact info in my fax cover sheetand asked that they phone with any additional questions)...I really think they were simply trying to sell me the insurance, fraud protection, and monthly credit report *** and that since I declined having those charges put on my card they are now looking for a way to rescend their credit offer. I am unable to get to anybody within that organization with any authority to help me.
It is seriously the worst customer service I have experienced in a very long time, like you every time I call and am transferred I am disconnected...and there is no way to deal with just one person, so you have to go through the whole history each and every time you phone. They really need to get their act together, and I would love to be able to contact someone higher up in their organization.

i am having the exact same problem. they want me to prove its me, yet they had no problem believing it when they sent the first bill. i have proven my identity three times and my issue is still not resolved
after activating my card, i called them to clarify my cash advance options. after going through those identity clarification questions i had them send me a pin--while simultaneously restricting my account. i guess asking for clarification is fraud.

Do not think of your faults, still less of other's faults; look for what is good and strong and try to imitate it. Your faults will drop off, like dead leaves, when their time comes.

Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results.

You can't wish for more wishes or for vague generalities like happiness that are impossible to grant. Your wish has to be something specific enough that I can use my wand to make it happen.

Anyone can come into your life and say how much they love you. It takes someone really special to stay in your life and show how much they love you.

I also received a capital one card, activated it this morning, was confirmed by a "live" person that the card was then activated. In the evening I went to my pharmacy to pick up a prescription and it was denied.
I had a feeling this was a hoax; but this transaction confirmed it. I returned home, tried to re-activate on-line, this time and the page could not be found and the website was on the little red strip on the card which I used to call this morning. The wed site states: capitalone.com/activate.
Beware this is fraud. dremtyme

THIS COMPANY REALLY SUCK, I WAS WITH THEM AND FOR MY LUCK I GOT A CHASE BALANCE TRANSFER PROMO AND I PAID THEM OFF, IF I EVER HAVE A UNRECOGNIZED TRANSACTION CHASE CALLS ME ASP! AND AS WELL THEY HAVE FRAUD TEXT ALERT SERV AND GUESS WHAT??? ***ITS FREE***
Same thing happpenned to me. I activated the card after two hours on the phone with capital one reps.
Then went to buy some food.
Next day my account was restricted and i got a call from their fraud department that i had to call them. This is too much.
CAPITAL ONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS BLOG.
Exact same issue happened to me guys. This Capital one sucks.
They had been sending me offer for their credit card, so finnaly i decided to get. And after some days i got my card. I got happy for getting card and i activated but they were offering me insurance, fraud and bla bla bla but i denied their offer. Just after a day they blocked my account saying fraud and bla bla bla....
I have used arroiund $60.
so i wonder they do they do? What happnes if i didnt submit documents that they have asked for verification.
exact same thing. i was confused as to how i was allowed to close the account if they needed proof of who i was.
i was also told that it was company policy not to disclose what was fraudulent about the transaction.
anyone wanna join a class action lawsuit? i think lawyers need to be involved.
this company along with there ridiculous polcies are a joke. i too along with many others above had got a card, called to activate it, went to make a $2 purchase an hour later and it was declined.
i called the number and was promptly transferred to "the head of the fraud department" after listening to some BS. i was fed up and wanted to talk to a manager which they would not allow me to do and after my constant badgering i was hung up on! i called back and got the same person! i explained to the lady on the phone if i could not speak with someone else i demand an explanation for what was going on.
i was told those matters could not be discussed over the phone and would have to wait 7-10 days for a letter in the mail to tell me what had happened and then send in my ID along with a paystub; or i could simply fax them the info. when i hit them with the question of how long the suspension would take to get lifted she frankly told me "she did not know, it could be as long as 2 months". now this is misrepentation of the letters they send in the mail for there "pre-screened cards" an frankly it's false advertising. it takes very little to open an account with them and get a card but it takes much more after you activate it.
I called and cancelled my card and that was no problem. I then informed the lady that they would be speaking to my lawyer shortly. I will be sueing this company for damages, false advertising and credit&mail fraud.
i hope this along with the other posts is a fore-warning to all others trying to get a capitol one card right now! dont do it!
